Ross Crockford, Canadian award-winning freelance writer, will be the featured speaker at the Clallam County Historical Society’s History Tales of Clallam County at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, in the Port Angeles City Council Chambers, 321 E. Fifth St.
Crockford is a former trial lawyer who turned to journalism in the 1990s when he started working at The Prague Post, an English-language newspaper in eastern Europe. In 1998, he became the editor of Victoria’s Monday Magazine. In 2006, he wrote “Victoria: The Unknown City” and his “Unknown City” column appears in Monday Magazine.
Crockford will talk about the “quirky” aspects of the city across the Strait of Juan de Fuca. He will give an overview of Victoria’s development and concerns from its founding that still bedevil it today. He also will speak about Victoria’s history as a tourist destination and some of the odd characters that have passed through and form much of the local mythology.
History Tales is free and open to the public. For further information, call the society’s office at 360-452-2662.
