The Alzheimer’s Association, Western and Central Washington State Chapter, hosts a town hall meeting from 1:30-3:30 p.m.  Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the Sequim Senior Activity Center, 921 E. Hammond St.

The meeting highlights and solicits feedback on public policy initiatives, including the National Alzheimer’s Plan, an Alzheimer’s Disease Plan for Washington, and a new initiative to improve health care for “dual eligibles,” older and disabled Washingtonians who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid.

The National Alzheimer’s Plan touches on a broad array of Alzheimer’s issues from caregiver support to expanding research to health care provider education and efforts to raise public awareness to diminish the stigma associated with Alzheimer’s.

The town hall includes a panel reflecting the breadth and depth of the Alzheimer’s experience. Federal, state and local elected officials and/or staff are welcome to participate.

The Alzheimer’s Association’s objective is to educate the public, solicit input and provide an opportunity for the public to interact with elected leaders, organization representatives say.

Alzheimer’s is the third-leading cause of death in Washington and sixth nationally. More than 150,000 Washingtonians have Alzheimer’s and more than 350,000 family members and friends provided about 368 million hours of unpaid care in 2012.
