Art in the library

The Sequim Library will recognize artist Judy W. Priest with an after-hours reception from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, as part of Sequim’s First Friday Art Walk. Priest’s work will be on display, light refreshments will be available and live jazz music will be performed from 5:30-7:30 p.m. by Chez Jazz.  Limited library services will be available during the reception at 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Priest moved to Sequim in 1955, after marrying a descendant of one of the area’s pioneer families.  She came to watercolors in the late 1970s, following earlier training at the University of Oregon and the Portland Art Museum School.

She pursued her art education by attending watercolor workshops with well-known teachers such as Richard Yip, Robert Landry, Nita Engle, Carolyn Buchanan and Zoltan Szabo.

In addition to painting, Priest has been an instructor for Peninsula College and a private teacher since 1982. She teaches classes at the Sequim Senior Activities Center.

Priest’s paintings will remain on display at the Sequim Library through March.
