Port Townsend had the medalist, but Sequim the better team.

The Wolves’ boys golf team got solid rounds from all six golfers and a hole-in-one from Steve Loerlein in a 114-104 win against P.T.’s Redskins April 25 in Sequim.

The win gives the Wolves a 3-2-1 season record heading into the May 1 regular season finale at North Mason.

Brendon Gilles and Taylor Thorson each shot rounds of 84 for 24 Stableford points while Loerlein, Chad Quinet and Colby Rude racked up 22 Stableford points in the win. Loerlein hit his ace on the 150-yard hole No.4 at The Cedars at Dungeness using an 8-iron.

Redskin Zach Yakush shot a 79 to earn medalist honors, but only two other teammates scored 20 Stableford points or better.

The win came a day after the Wolves finished 11th among 13 teams at the Higgins Invitational in Bremerton.

Rude shot a team-best 82 while Quinet came in with a 90. Bryce Gange finished at 100 while Thorson rounded out Sequim’s squad with a 103 for 375 team points, 14 points back of 10th-place Port Angeles.

On the girls’ side, the Wolves started the week on a down note, falling to Port Angeles 108-69 at SkyRidge Golf Course in Sequim April 24.

Sequim’s Phoebe Haglin shared medalist honors with Roughriders Tray Dupuis and Kara Herzog with 24 points each, while teammate Zoei Zbaraschuk was fifth overall with 21 points.

On April 25, the Wolves’ girls team finished fourth out of six teams at the Duke Streeter Tournament in Port Angeles. Haglin and Zbaraschuk teamed up for a round of 77 while Medea Bernsten and Kim Duce came in at 103 for a 180 team total, two shots better than fifth-place host P.A.

The Wolves’ girls squad finishes the regular season May 1 at North Mason before joining the boys at the West Central District tournament, set for May 13 at Fort Lewis Golf Course near Tacoma.
