Wolves’ girls repeat as champs

With plenty of season remaining, Sequim’s girls golf squad can celebrate at least a little bit.

The Wolves swept a three-way match with Klahowya and Bremerton on May 3 to win the outright Olympic League championship, their second consecutive crown (and third in four years), as they finish the spring with seven wins and a tie.

Sequim’s girls also tallied plenty of postseason honors, as Kim Duce (second in the league in scoring), Hailey Estes (third) and Lisa Doan (fifth) were named to the all-Olympic League team. Jenny Grauberger of Port Townsend was named league MVP for leading in scoring.

On the boys’ side, Port Townsend edged Sequim for the regular season title. Sequim’s Ryan O’Mera, who finished just behind league top scorer and MVP Troy Means of North Kitsap, was named to the all-league team as was Sequim’s Mallory Maloney.

Sequim golf squads were slated to play at the Olympic League tourney at Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton on May 9 — results of the tourney were not available at press time. The top eight players get an automatic berth to state while the 9-15 placers advance to districts, slated for May 17 at Gold Mountain.

The class 2A state tourney is May 23-24, with girls playing at Lake Spanaway Golf Course (Spanaway) and boys at The Classic Golf Course (Spanaway).
