Through the generosity of a group of dog owners who meet daily, a new “shelter” was installed at the Sequim Dog Park on Jan. 8. From left, Larry Elliott, Wes Williams, Mike McCown, Jan Boyungs and Sequim Public Works’ Gary Meyer join three workers from a Hermiston, Ore., installation company at the park last week.
The carport-style covering straddles the fence between two large dog play areas, offering dog owners protection from rain and sun. Cost of the shelter is covered by donations from this group as well as from the treasury of the Sequim Dog Park Pals organization, a volunteer organization that accepts donations on behalf of the dog park.
The group’s board of directors worked with Sequim Public Works Department’s Mike Brandt and Jeff Edwards to approve this shelter, noted board member Jim Fletcher, while the City of Sequim supplied the gravel bed underneath the structure.
