SPD to participate in Drug Take-Back Day

Sequim Gazette staff

County-wide local law enforcement agencies, including the Sequim Police Department, will be participating in the Nationwide Prescription Take-Back Day sponsored by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration.

Individuals can drop off expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Sequim Police Department, 609 W. Washington St., Suite 16. Drugs also can be dropped off anytime during regular office hours from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

The service is free and anonymous with no questions asked. The collection service will include both controlled and non-controlled prescription drugs as well as over-the-counter medications. The police department also will now accept illegal drugs for destruction. Syringes and medical waste will not be accepted.

Prescription drug abuse is the fastest-growing drug problem in America.

Individuals are reminded that you never should flush prescription drugs down the toilet or sink drain unless the label or accompanying patient information specifically instructs you to do so.

For questions, contact the Sequim Police Department during business hours at 683-7227.
