A three-sport star while playing for Sequim High, Alexas Besand is now focused on basketball at Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon.
Besand, a sophomore, is averaging nine minutes per contest, gathering 2.5 points and 1.6 rebounds per game. Now in her second year with the Cardinals (9-5), Besand scored a season-high eight points in a Dec. 1 game versus Tacoma.
Besand, a 2014 SHS graduate, was selected an all-Olympic League second team player in basketball after leading the Wolves with 11.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 1.5 blocks per game in 2013-2014.
A versatile athlete, Besand was named all-Olympic League first team player at first base three consecutive years and was a second team all-leaguer in back-to-back seasons in prep volleyball.
