Mike Youngquist, general manager, Clallam Cooperative Association, and Kathy Reid, store manager, received the Kiwanis Business of the Month Award for July 2010 from club president Joe Treece. The Co-op, the name most widely used for the association, began as a farmer’s cooperative in 1936, with an improved buying power and the ability to negotiate better prices for their products. In 1976, it changed to a consumer’s cooperative with similar objectives. Many of the association’s 29 employees have been with the cooperative for a long time, both Reid and Youngquist for more than 20 years. Clallam Cooperative Association, dba Co-op Farm & Garden, is at 216 E. Washington St., Sequim. Submitted photo
