Sam Manders, a sixth-grader at Mountain View Christian School, is in his fourth year of collecting tab tops.
Why does Manders collect tab tops? Because Ronald McDonald House Charities has a Tab-Top Collection Program that helps provide an assortment products, from bed linens and cleaning supplies to light bulbs and other sundries, to children and families in need.
Ronald McDonald House Charities relies on donations to stay in business. When families are admitted, they’re charged $20 per day despite the actual cost being closer to $100 per room. And if the family cannot afford the bill, the organization will reduce or waive the fee completely.
So, with help from Olympic View Combined Club, Agnew Helpful Neighbors, Sequim Seventh-day Adventist Church and Mountain View Christian School, Manders has collected more tab tops this year than all other years combined.
To mark the achievement, Manders and his family are planning a trip to Portland, Ore., to deliver the bounty of tab tops in person.
To help Manders and the Ronald McDonald House Charities, visit the organization’s home page at www.rmhc.com or start pulling tab tops off soda cans, soup cans, pet food cans, tennis ball cans, etc., and drop them off at Mountain View Christian School, 255 Medsker Road,
Sequim.
For more information, call Olympic View Christian School at 683-6170, or call Manders at 683-4799 and he will pick up the tabs himself.
