Amanda Forbes is going for more gold. With a lucky draw, she’ll get that chance.
The team member from Clallam County Orcas, the local Special Olympics team, earned a gold medal in the individual skills golf competition in Everett last weekend.
Teammates David Carver and Kim Wing each earned silver medals in the "Unified 9-Hole" event, also at Everett’s Walter Hall Golf Course.
Forbes finish comes with a bonus. Washington was granted one berth for females to compete at the World Games in Greece in 2011. Forbes and four others achieved gold medals, and a random draw gives one of those five that berth, said coach Garrett Smithson.
"There has never been an athlete from the Clallam County organization in any sport to go to the World Games," Smithson said. "Usually the Special Olympics does a nationwide draw for this spot but since Washington was granted one spot, her odds go from one in 1,000 to one in five."
Smithson said he expects to know by the end of the week if Forbes got the lucky draw.
At the Everett competition, Carver teamed with partner Bill Shea to shoot a 49 while Wing teamed with Kathy Langston to shoot a 59.
