Sequim JCPenney customers recently rounded up $1,700 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula by rounding their purchases to the nearest whole dollar.

Sequim JCPenney customers recently rounded up $1,700 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula by rounding their purchases to the nearest whole dollar.

“With the $1,700 raised from Sequim JCPenney store’s recent ‘Round-Up’ program, even more children can benefit from the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula after-school programs,” said Bob Schilling, the clubs’ executive director.

“We appreciate JCPenney’s support as we work toward our goal of providing high-quality after-school programs that provide academic, physical and social development for our members in the Sequim and Port Angeles areas.”

JCPenney sponsored the Lights on Afterschool event on Oct. 22, with more than 7,500 local events nationally supported by the JCPenney Afterschool Fund.

For the 10th anniversary of the rally, the Sequim Boys & Girls club organized a “Read-In” where more than 50 students read for 30 minutes. Afterward, those who wished to share summarized what they read to the group.

“Lights On Afterschool is an exciting event that honors the importance of after-school programs for America’s children, families and communities,” said Sequim JCPenney manager Paul Quinn.

“However, we know we need to do more to keep up with the rising demand of after-school programs locally. We look forward to continuing our strong, long-term commitment to this issue
and appreciate our customers for their support of this worthy cause.”

JCPenney and the JCPenney Afterschool Fund have contributed more than $80 million to after-school programs in the U.S.
