Katie Hedgecock says she hopes to study the sciences: marine biology, astronomy or the environment as a whole.

Local Rotarians think she’s on the right path already.

The Sequim Sunrise Rotary named Hedgecock their Student of the Month for May.

A top eighth-grade student at Sequim Middle School with a 4.0 grade-point-average, Hedgecock says her favorite school subjects include science, math, and language arts.

"I love science and want to have a career in this field when I’m older," she says. "I like language arts because it challenges me."

Her favorite sport to play is baseball but she also loves to watch football.

Her non-school interests and hobbies include badminton and being outside, fishing, camping and going on walks with her mom.

She plans to attend Running Start.

Hedgecock was born in Soldotna, Alaska, and then lived in Kasilof, Alaska. Her family moved to Sequim in 2000. Her parents are Cindy and Mark Hedgecock, both of Sequim. She has two siblings: Anna and Theresa.
