Competitors have been announced for the 29th annual Young Artist Competition and 9th annual Junior Young Artist Competition beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez Ave., Port Angeles.
The competition is free and open to a public audience.
Competitors for the Junior Young Artist Competition are: Elizabeth Watkins, piano, Port Angeles; Emily Bundy, piano, Port Angeles; Adam Weller, violin, Port Angeles; Erin Dwyer, piano, Sequim; Adlai Erickson, cello, Port Townsend; Lum Fu, piano, Port Angeles; Gracie Kennedy, flute, Port Angeles; Lauren Waldron, viola, Port Angeles; Sienna Porter, violin, Port Angeles; Keon Deng, piano, Port Angeles; Keith Wilwert, piano, Sequim; and Meiqi Liang, violin, Port Angeles.
Competitors for the Young Artist Competition are: Marley Erickson, violin, Port Townsend; Michael Helwick, double bass, Port Angeles; Katharyn Rivers, piano, Port Angeles; Leah Haworth, viola, Port Angeles; Trent Lacour, piano, Sequim; Shannon Gordon, piano, Sequim; Michael Lee, violin, Port Angeles; Leah Marsh, violin, Port Angeles; Madelyn Kowalski, cello, Nordland; Joshua Gershon, flute, Port Angeles; Kate Powers, violin, Sequim; Scott Anders, piano, Port Angeles; Jeffrey Mordecai-Smith, clarinet, Port Angeles; and Calista Mordacai-Smith, viola, Port Angeles.
The Junior Young Artist Competition is open to any North Olympic Peninsula instrumental music student who is currently in ninth grade or below who has not competed, or applied for the Symphony’s Young Artist Competition or won first prize in the 2014 Junior competition. Cash award are first place $250, first place $125 and third place $75.
The Young Artist Competition is open to any North Olympic Peninsula instrumental music student who will be younger than 22 years old June 1, 2015, and who did not win first prize in the 2014 competition. Cash awards are first place $500, first place $250 and third place $100.
