The Sequim equestrian team earned a top-10 finish in the state and had a pair of top-10 event finishes at the Washington Association of High School Equestrian Team state meet in Moses Lake, held May 14-17.

In her first year riding Saddleseat, Kaytee Gibeau placed seventh overall.

She and team captain Sydney Balkan earned a fifth-place finish in Team Cow Sorting.

Sequim coach Katie Salmon-Newton said Abi Payseno had a fast go in the Pole Bending event, as did Haylie Newton in Steer Daubing, while Newton and Amanda Murphy had a strong effort in Team Sorting along with Sequim’s Working Fours drill team (Balkan, Gibeau, Newton and Heidi Schleiger).

“All of us had a good time competing in Moses Lake with the hundreds of athletes from across the state,” Salmon Newton said.
