This week at the market you will find that we are still here! With a handful of hardy artisans and a few farmers we will be open for three more weeks on Cedar Street, wrapping up on Nov. 10, provided the weather and the vendors are up for it.

New at the market this week, Nash’s Organic Produce has started selling bulk red Detroit and golden chiogga beets. They are great shredded fresh into a salad, pickled, roasted or sauteed with garlic in olive oil and they are packed with vitamins and minerals. The last of this year’s cilantro is hitting market racks this weekend — inhale, smile, repeat. Can you believe they still have basil? Hooray! Nash’s also is offering kraut cabbage, available in 10-pound increments, and Nash’s Napa cabbage is off the hook right now.

The second annual Silent Auction and Community Potluck is from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at Pioneer Park. The market counts on community support to keep its budget balanced. We accomplish that by having sponsors, local businesses that contribute, and we offer advertising and visibility. Another way we have come to support the market is by holding a Silent Auction and Community Potluck. It is a celebration of the end of the market season and a time to visit with vendors and other market-goers. This event is a fundraiser for the market. All proceeds from the silent auction go directly back into developing the market. Last year’s items raised over $1,000. This year there are just as many fantastic items. Let’s help make our market stronger than ever. All items are handmade or are gift certificates from local businesses. It’s a great way to get a deal and support the market.

For your holiday shopping, be sure to come to our indoor Holiday Show at Carrie Blake Park. We will have the market set up inside the Guy Cole Center. It is a time to take advantage of the ease of buying local without having to brave the unpredictable elements of November. The event is from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17; admission is free. There will be live music from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. and delicious baked goods and sandwiches provided by The Red Rooster Grocery. Shop local for the holidays at our Holiday Show.
