How sweep it is.
Sequim’s girls and boys track stars earned a pair of wins in Port Townsend last week, sweeping the host Redskins and Klahowya Eagles.
Sequim’s boys dominated the sprints, relays, hurdles and throws, taking 12 first-place finishes in 17 events.
Junior Frank Catelli took top honors in the shot put (48-8), discus (135-3) and javelin (160-2) while senior Stephan Stilts took both hurdles events and sophomore Taylor Bonneau won both 100 and 200 sprints.
Bonneau and Stilts also teamed up with other Wolves to win both 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
Jayson Brocklesby won both the high jump and 400-meter race. In the latter, the Sequim sophomore came within 0.23 second of breaking the school mark, set by Dave Carroll in 1985.
Mack Grinnell topped 9-6 in the pole vault for a win as well.
On the girls’ side, the Wolves were missing five of their top athletes to illness, but still managed to edge Port Townsend in team points, 75-74.
Sophomore Haleigh Harrison was a three-event winner, topping the field in the high jump (5-0), long jump (15-3) and triple jump (32-6.25).
Also picking up wins were Mandi England (100), Audrey Lichten (11:40), Hanna Hudson (pole vault) and Sequim’s 4×100 and 4×400 squads.
“All in all, a good day,” Sequim coach Brad Moore said.
The Wolves host their lone meet of the season on Thursday, April 28, taking on the Kingston Buccaneers and North Mason Bulldogs.
Select Sequim athletes make the trek south to compete at the Shelton Invitational, the final warm-up before the May 5 Olympic League meet at North Kitsap High School in Poulsbo.
