The City of Sequim Public Works crew is installing LED (light-emitting diode) units in the large street lamps on Washington Street. In all 75 new units will be installed this year. Here, City of Sequim Public Works crew member Del Singer works on installing an LED unit. “The PUD (Public Utility District) estimates that for each 25 LED units that we install the city will save approximately $1,000 per year in electrical costs,” said City of Sequim Streets Manager Mike Brandt. “We should also see savings in labor cost and materials over time, as the LED units will need to be replaced less frequently than traditional bulbs.” Cost for the LED units was included in the 2013 approved budget. The city will be reimbursed for a portion of that cost as part of a PUD conservation incentive program. Contact Brandt at 681-3437 or mbrandt@sequimwa.gov questions. Submitted photo
