One bad apple, the cliche goes, can spoil the bunch. So it was in Sequim High School baseball’s 9-4 home loss to Bremerton on April 19, when a quartet of errors in the fourth led to a seven Knight runs.
The teams plated one run each in the first and third innings before the floodgates opened. Bremerton batted around before Sequim could get an out, fueled by four miscues, a hit batter, a walk and three singles.
Sequim got two runs back in the seventh inning on a two-run triple by Evan Hurn, but the damage was done.
Austin Hilliard took the loss for Sequim, though only two of the nine runs he gave up in three innings of work were earned. Daniel Harker threw four innings of shutout relief, striking out six and giving up just two hits. Sequim’s Gavin Velarde was
2-for-4 with three runs scored and Hurn had three RBIs.
Bremerton’s Andy McMartin went the distance, giving up six hits and two earned runs.
