Peninsula College’s soccer squads remain two of the best in the nation after sweeping aside Shoreline at home on Sept. 13.
The P.C. women, ranked No. 8 in the National Soccer Coaches Association Junior College Division I Poll, knocked off Shoreline 4-0 to remain the only unbeaten and unscored-upon team in the Northwest Athletic Conference. Taylor Berg scored the lone first-half goal, but the Pirates erupted in the second half with scores from Katelyn Raatz, Tasha Inong and Paige Mahuka.
On the men’s side, the last-place Shoreline squad put up a fight but the Pirates outlasted the Dolphins, 3-1, in a game decided in the final 10 minutes.
P.C., ranked No. 12 in the National Soccer Coaches Association Junior College Division I Poll, got on the board 11 minutes in when Kassio Monteiro found Caio Maciel for a score. Shoreline scored on a breakaway just before the first half whistle, but Maciel converted a penalty kick and Monteiro added some insurance in the final few minutes.
Peninsula is at Everett on Sept. 17 and Skagit Valley on Sept. 20 before hosting Edmonds on Sept. 23.
