The tale of Hansel and Gretel is about to be turned on its head.
The Port Angeles Community Players Playhouse, 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd., presents four shows of “The (Almost) Totally True Story of Hansel and Gretel” by Steph DeFerie and directed by Barbara Frederick.
Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 25-26, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 26 and 27. Tickets are by donation and available at the door.
In this version, Hansel and Gretel are juvenile delinquents and the police are after them. As they escape, they encounter fantasy characters like Snow White, Red Riding Hood and more leading to an encounter with the witch in the candy house.
Frederick said the play was chosen by students of several workshops that began in January. They designed and painted the set and will work backstage and usher guests in for the shows.
“There is so much energy and fun in this production,” Frederick said. “I’ve been a guide to these amazing kids, but they’ve done all the work and they’re really special.”
The production began its shows July 18-20 with a different cast. This weekend’s cast includes Kaylee Dunlap, Sammy Weinert, Alisyn Boyd, Damon Little, Meigi Liang, Cody Anderson, Sage Hunter, Hannah Smith, Tabitah Webster, Hudson Soelter, Emily Bundy, Faith Chamberlain, Grace Burnette, Michael Roggenbuck, Kara Hales, Alex Delgado, Ceara Webster, Elli Laungayan, Ava Fuller, Alisandra Baccus, Ella Holland, Madison Peterson, Grace Hales, Madison Schmidt, Caitlin Gerdes, Charlie Jensen, Cole Anderson, William Sirguy, Sara Holland and Mabel Waknitz.
