First Teacher offers H1N1 shots
On Jan. 22, the First Teacher program offers free H1N1 shots beginning at 9:30 a.m. Shot administrators need to know ahead of time the exact ages of children who are receiving shots. Free H1N1 shots also are available from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20, at the Clallam County Courthouse’s immunization clinic in Port Angeles.

WWU bachelor’s degree info session set
Western Washington University offers a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in environmental studies through Peninsula College.
An information session about the courses is at noon Tuesday, Jan. 26, in the P Building at the college campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

Pre-3 preschool enrolling for winter
There are two spots still open for the winter quarter at Sequim Pre-Three preschool.
The class meets from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Fridays at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave..
Sequim Pre-Three is a nonprofit organization sponsored by Peninsula College for parents and guardians with children ages of 10 months to 31/2 years.
Parents come weekly with their children for a wide variety of activities including music, art, social interactions, dramatic and outdoor play. Parents take turns working in the classroom with the children’s teacher and participating in a discussion led by an experienced parent educator while earning college credit.

‘Capable People’ class comes to Sequim
John and Linda Benson present a six-part class on helping children learn to deal effectively with life’s challenges such as learning, relationships and future work.
"Developing Capable People" is taught in six, two-hour sessions from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesdays – Feb. 17, 24, March 3, 10, 17 and 24 – at the First Teacher Classroom, 4W, in Sequim Community School, 220 W. Alder St.
Light refreshments are served; on-site child care is available.
Suggested donation is $30 per person or $45 per couple; scholarships are available.

Carnival, barn dance to benefit local school
The Parent Service Organization of the Five Acre School is hosting its second winter "Beat the Blues Barn Dance" on Saturday, Feb. 6, with two events.
The daytime event offers an all-ages dance and carnival from noon-4 p.m. and the evening event, for adults 16 and older only, will be 7-11 p.m.
Both events will be held at the Cedarfield Barn, 702 Kitchen-Dick Road.
Bands Deadwood Revival and the Black Diamond Fiddlers Club play at both events.
Tickets are $15 for adults (16 and older), $5 for children (ages 5-15), and children of ages 4 and younger are free. Tickets are available at The Cracked Bean Coffee Company in Sequim or Odyssey Books in Port Angeles.
Proceeds go toward the scholarship and equipment funds.

College offers social media classes
Renne Emiko Brock-Richmond of Sequim, who has been teaching computer classes since 1992, is offering three social media classes in February and March. The classes are $20 each.
• "Twitter" is set for 5:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4 at Dungeness Design, 520 N. Sequim Ave. The class teaches individuals how the medium’s micro-blogging technology creates effective, fast-paced networking in 140 characters or less.
• "Facebook" is scheduled for 5:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2 at the Peninsula College the main campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., in Port Angeles. The course introduces students to one of the leading social networking sites. Learn how to create an account, add friends, upload photos, customize a profile, engage in chat and use Facebook applications for strategic networking.
• "Second Life" is set for 5:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 4 at Dungeness Design. Learn to create an avatar, navigate through immersive 3-D environments, engage in innovative learning and research personal interests.
