Little League kicks off season in a big way

A little rain didn’t seem to slow things down at the Sequim Little League’s Opening Day ceremony on April 13.

Parents, other family and friends cheered on players from nearly 20 teams in boys’, girls’ and coed divisions. Led by president/master of ceremonies Garin Williams, league officials rang in the new season with the national anthem, a blessing, the Little League pledge (via Hayden Eaton and Brianna Reeves), raising of the American flag by Boy Scout Troop 1491, all-stars recognition and first pitch by Roberta Murillo.

Other festivities included a home run derby, pitch speed radar gun activity, inflatable slide and, of course, games. First-day winners included the All Around Fencing Sluggers squad — a 1-0 winner against Fred’s Hobbies Mariners — in boys’ majors action, and PSES Yankees, an 11-1 winner over the First Federal Fierce Angels.

The Little League season runs through June 13.
