Girls Tennis: Three Sequim girls move on to districts

Sequim’s Wolves sends three girls, Hannah Gauthun in singles, and Karen Chan and Cheyenne Sokkappa as doubles, to play in the 2A WCD III Girls Tennis Championships at the Kitsap Tennis Club in Bremerton on May 22-23.

 

Sequim’s Wolves sends three girls, Hannah Gauthun in singles, and Karen Chan and Cheyenne Sokkappa as doubles, to play in the 2A WCD III Girls Tennis Championships at the Kitsap Tennis Club in Bremerton on May 22-23.

Gauthun takes the fifth seed into districts after going 3-2 in matches at the Olympic League championships on May 12. She won her first two matches but lost to No. 1 seed North Kitsap’s Danya Wallis, who won the tournament. In the consolation, Gauthun lost her first match but recovered to take the final seed for districts.

Chan and Sokkappa went on to take the fourth seed after going 3-2 as well. The duo won their first matchup but lost their second matchup. In the consolation bracket they won their next two before losing to North Kitsap’s Sarah Holt and Megan Cragg for third.

Sequim also sent doubles team Stephanie Lacour and Katey Wake, who went 0-2.

The three girls who compete in districts vie for the class 2A state championships set for May 29 at the University of Washington.

On the season, Sequim went 4-8 in league play and 5-9 overall.
