Kaps golf tourney set

The Rick Kaps Scholarship Scramble is set for Friday, Nov. 27, at SkyRidge Golf Course, 7015 Old Olympic Highway.

Donations and a percentage of green fees go to providing scholarships to several Sequim High School seniors.

Format is a four-person scramble with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.

Cost is $220 per team with optional honey pot. Included in the price is a T-shirt, a meal provided by Captain Henry and a scholarship donation.

SHS bowling team hosts fundraiser

The Sequim High School bowling team is hosting a fundraiser at the Sequim Arby’s restaurant, 540 W. Washington St., from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18.

The team receives 50 percent of the profits said coach Randy Perry.

The coach said money raised goes toward new equipment for the team.

Hart sinks ace

Joe Hart made his third career hole-in-one on the 17th hole at SunLand Golf & Country Club on Nov. 4. It was Hart’s second ace at SunLand.

Parks celebrates

Agnew field opening

The Clallam County Parks, Fair and Facilities group invites the public to the grand opening of the Agnew Soccer Fields from noon-12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18.

The soccer fields, located at the southeast corner of Olympic Highway and North Barr Road between Sequim and Port Angeles, are collectively the newest Clallam County park. A $205,500 matching grant from the state Recreation and Conservation Office enabled Clallam County to buy the 7.4-acre soccer fields this summer.

2009 Winterfest

event set

The 2009 Winterfest, featuring dinner, a ski movie and ski swap is Friday-Saturday, Nov. 20-21, at the Vern Burton Center in Port Angeles.

At 5 p.m. Friday, Winterfest kicks off with a prime rib dinner and the latest Warren Miller ski film, "Dynasty." The Port Angeles Jazz Band provides music. Cost is $40. Each ticket buyer receives a $10 gift certificate to Wilderness Outdoor Store in Port Townsend.

On Saturday is the ski swap. Admission is $3 per person or $7 per family. Drop off gear to sell/trade between 8:30-11 a.m. Return at noon to shop or swap until 4 p.m. That night is a 7 p.m. viewing of "Dynasty" for $10 each.

Eagles football

hosts tryout

The Olympic Peninsula Eagles, an adult semi-pro football team, host a tryout and practice on Nov. 14.

The tryout is from 9 a.m.-noon at Monroe Elementary School, 102 Monroe Road, Port Angeles.

Practices for the team are each Saturday from 9 a.m.-noon, beginning in January.

Hoops officials

seek recruits

The North Olympic Basketball Officials’ Association is recruiting men and women for positions as junior high/middle school and high school basketball officials.

No experience is necessary; the group trains each recruit.

Association members work games across the peninsula.

Officials receive pay per game plus travel expenses.

The first association meeting is 5 p.m. Nov. 15, in the Port Angeles High School library, 304 E. Park Ave.

Youth volleyball club hosts tryouts

The Peninsula Team Turbo Volleyball Club, entering its sixth season of competitive play, hosts tryouts for its youth girls (ages 8-18) program from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15, at the Port Angeles High School gym, 304 E. Park Ave.

League age is based on age on Sept. 1, 2010. Tryout fee (nonrefundable) is $20.

The new season begins the last part of November and runs through March.

Kayakers to talk

marine mammals tonight

Richard Osborn, salmon restoration coordinator for Clallam County, is scheduled to speak tonight, at the Nov. 11 meeting of the Olympic Peninsula Paddlers.

The 7 p.m. meeting is at Vern Burton Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Osborn will speak about marine mammals that kayakers might encounter while paddling in the Strait of Juan De Fuca and Puget Sound.
