takes 15th at state
Zoei Zbaraschuk of Sequim shot a two-day 196 to place 15th at the Washington Junior Golf Association state championship’s (Girls 14-17 division) in Bellevue last week.
Zbaraschuk, 17, shot a first round 86 on July 29, 14 shots back of leader Lauren Sewell of Renton, to tie for 17th. On July 30, She moved up two spots with a second round of 83 but missed the seven-player final round.
Sewell won the girls’ 14-17 division with a three-day total of 219 (72-72-75), edging Kirkland’s Simone Strauss by four shots.
Players battled 95- to 103-
degree temperatures on the Bellevue courses.
SARC offers free
circuit training
The Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center is offering a free circuit room orientation this summer at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Preregistration is required; maximum enrollment is six.
Participants must be at least 16 years old and may register by calling SARC at 683-3344, x16.
Orientations run through Aug. 27.
SHS cross country hosts car wash
Sequim High School cross country team members host a car wash from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22 at Chase Bank, formerly Washington Mutual Bank, 680 W. Washington St.
The event raises fund for traveling to a competition in Seaside, Ore., later this year.

Coaching clinic
set for August
Peninsula College is home to the Port Angeles Youth Soccer Club coaching clinic for E licenses this August.
The camp is slated for 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Aug. 23 and 5-9 p.m. Aug. 24 and 25.
The camp is at the college soccer fields, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
Cost is $25 per participant.
This Washington State Youth Soccer Association course focuses on coaching points and the teaching of technique, with an introduction to the Principles of Play (attack and defense.) The "E" course also provides elementary information on the management and preparation of a team. Coaches will be asked to play.
Participants need to bring pencil, paper, water, cleats, shin guards and a ball.
Applications and money must be received by Aug. 18; the camp has just 32 spots.

Girls teen soccer camp set for August
A soccer camp for girls ages 13-19 is scheduled for 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Aug. 8 and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Aug. 9 at the Peninsula College soccer fields, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.
The camp focuses on conditioning, technical development and tactical decision-making skills. Participants are urged to bring cleats, shin guards, paper, pencil and lunch. Some time is spent in a classroom and the camp features a one-hour lunch break each day.
Cost is $85 per player. Andrew Chapman, Peninsula College’s men’s soccer head coach, organizes the camp.
