Hoops camps and golf tourney set, McTakeover for gymnasts and more.

Advantage Basketball hosts a basketball camp this summer. The organization is a three- or five-day camp (July 20-22 or July 20-24) at the Sequim High School gymnasium, 601 N. Sequim Ave.

Cost is $195 for the three-day camp and $265 for the five-day camp; save $30 by registering by June 20.

Camps are run from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The camps are open to boys and girls ages 6-18. All levels and skill abilities are welcome. Skills taught include ball-handling and shooting, court awareness, defense and more.

Golf for Football is Saturday

SkyRidge Golf Course hosts a Golf for Football tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at the course, 7015 Old Olympic Highway.

Cost is $50 per person and includes 18 holes of play, range balls and lunch.

Proceeds go to the Sequim High School football team; money raised helps send SHS athletes to football camps, funds conditioning programs and provides equipment.

The golf course can accommodate up to 20, four-person teams.

Coulter sinks ace

Sunland Women’s Golf Association group member Cheryl Coulter sank a hole-in-one in May during Ladies Day at Sunland Golf & Country Club. Coulter used a 7 iron to drive the 95-yard hole. Barbara Slagoske and Nancy Harlan witnessed the feat.

It was Coulter’s first hole-in-one at Sunland, though she has been playing the course for 18 years. Her first ever ace was in Hawaii on the Navy/Marine Course on Oahu.

Moroles is MVP

Sequim High School senior Miguel Moroles was selected as the All-Peninsula Football Offensive MVP by area coaches and the Peninsula Daily News sports staff.

Moroles helped the Wolves go from a winless season in 2013 to four games and a postseason berth in 2014. He was 91-of-132 passing for 1,083 yards and nine touchdowns, and ran for 722 yards and 11 scores on 102 carries. Moroles was voted to the Olympic League 2A first team.

Teammate Bailey Early, a sophomore wide receiver, was named to the All-Peninsula Football/Offense squad.

McTakeover for gymnasts

Klahhane Gymnastics will be doing a McTakeover at Sequim McDonald’s from 5-7 p.m. June 17. Please come support the Klahhane Competitive Team as they are raising funds for a weeklong camp in July in Idaho. The girls range from first-graders to high schoolers. They have set goals and competed all season long working very hard to make it to this camp.

Pirates basketball camp set

The Peninsula College Pirates host their annual Summer Basketball Camp, from 9 a.m.-noon, July 13-16, in the college gymnasium, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

The program aims to create a safe and fun learning environment that teaches youths good habits both on and off the basketball court. Athletes will focus on ball handling, passing, shooting, defense and other basketball concepts.

The program is open to boys and girls ages 7-16 who have an interest in basketball and a desire to work with college coaches and athletes to improve their game. Participants must bring gym shoes, a water bottle and a basketball to each practice.

Local yacht places in race

Sequim Bay Yacht Club’s Wind Child placed 14th in the Juan de Fuca race of the 72nd Swiftsure International Yacht Race in late May.

The Peninsula Daily News reports that skipper Rudolf Heessels led Wild Child, a Beneteau 36s7 yacht, to an official time of 8 hours, 36 minutes and 8 seconds in the 78.7-nautical mile race.

The Swiftsure International Yacht Race is hosted by the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. Almost 200 boats with nearly 1,800 sailors from yacht clubs from Washington, Oregon and Vancouver and Vancouver Island competed in the event’s five races.
