SHS’s Rhodefer gets regional kudos

Sequim High School baseball ace Tanner Rhodefer was selected the All-Peninsula Baseball MVP by area coaches and the Peninsula Daily News sports staff.

Rhodefer was 5-4 and had a 2.63 earned-run-average this spring, striking out 64 batters to help the Wolves earn a spot in the class 2A state tournament in May.

An all-Olympic League first team pitcher, Rhodefer also hit .386 with eight RBIs and nine steals.

Also named to the All-Peninsula baseball team were Sequim teammates Dusty Bates (senior, outfielder), Evan Hurn (junior, infielder) and Gavin Velarde (freshman, infielder).

Riley gets an ace

Bill Riley of Joyce sank his third lifetime hole-in-one at The Cedars at Dungeness on July 1. Riley used a sand wedge to drive the 128-yard hole No. 8 at The Cedars. Rod Harp of Sequim and Tom Deeny of Port Angeles witnessed the feat.


Lavender golf tourney slated for July 18

SkyRidge Golf Course, 7015 Old Olympic Highway, hosts its 10th-annual Lavender Golf Tournament on Saturday, July 18.

The two-person, scramble-format tourney kicks off with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.

Cost is $40 per player and includes green fees, range balls, KP and long putt contests and a barbecue burger lunch following play. Carts are $15 per seat and extra $10 honey pots are available.
