A pair of Sequim High freshman records were set/tied at the Olympic League Junior Varsity Championships in Silverdale on May 9.
Ninth-grader Kaitlyn Viada eclipsed the SHS girls’ freshman record in the javelin by throwing 80 feet 3 inches, surpassing the mark of 80 feet set by Sierra Clark in 2007.
Classmate Michael Mattern-Hall tied the boys freshman high jump record with a leap of 5 feet 6 inches, matching marks set by both Jackson Oliver (2013) and Jayson Brocklesby (2010) in their freshman seasons. (Brocklesby went on to a state title in the event as a senior, Oliver second place as a junior.)
Sequim’s girls took third place and SHS’s boys were eighth at the JV finale.
The Wolves captured five first-place finishes: Mattern-Hall in the high jump and 400 meters, Viada in the triple jump, Annabelle Armstrong in the pole vault and Kristinna Barnet in the 400
