A Sequim man was shot in the nose while enjoying the warm weather early Saturday evening at his home on the west side of the Dungeness River.

About 5:30 p.m., the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office responded to the man’s home on the 1500 block of Taylor Cutoff Road after he reported suddenly feeling pain in his nose, which had started bleeding profusely.

Medics determined the man had been shot in the nose, Sheriff’s Sgt. John Keegan said. Investigators examined the wound and determined the bullet had been traveling downward, he said.

The man, who has not been identified, was treated and released from Olympic Medical Center.

Deputies located a witness on the other side of the river who said he saw two men and one woman shooting at clay pigeons in a field off River Road just south of Happy Valley Road, Keegan said.

The field is about a half-mile away from where the man was shot.

The witness said a .22-caliber gun was used and the shooters left in a tan- or gold-colored Mercedes, Keegan said.

The shooting is believed to be unintentional but the investigation will continue, Keegan said. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office at 417-2459.
