A jazzy night

SHS band throws a dinner dance

The 35 or so members of the Sequim High School Jazz Band are dedicated musicians – the group meets in the wee hours of the morning, for an hour before school even begins, to practice their tunes.

"They are wonderful, so talented," said SHS Band Boosters president Laurie Campen.

The students also are willing to work to raise funds for their upcoming trips to the Moscow, Idaho, Lionel Hampton Music Festival in February and a spring trip to the Heritage Music Festival at Disneyland.

In coordination with the Stardust Big Band, the jazz band is holding "Night of Jazz," a dinner-dance event at the Sequim High School cafeteria.

Attendees will have access to buffet-style hors d’oeuvres and a night of both bands playing jazz and big band favorites.

Tickets for the Oct. 11 event are $15 for singles and $25 for couples and available at the SHS main office and The Buzz in Sequim. Doors to the cafeteria open at 5:30 p.m.
