Addictions conference deadline soon

April 5 is the deadline for registering for the Olympic Peninsula’s Ninth Annual Medical Assistant Conference set for Saturday, April 13, at North Olympic Peninsula Skills Center. This year’s theme is “Help for Today. Hope for Tomorrow.”

 

The conference officially opens at 8:30 a.m. with a conference reception/registration and continental breakfast.

 

The conference keynote speaker is Kim Deprati, a family practice physician’s assistant. She will speak on “The Changing Face of Health care.”

 

The presenters include Rob Dalm, physician’s assistant and Peninsula College adjunct professor, who will be speaking on “The HOWs and WHYs of Addiction: Some Neurobiology”; Vern West, CDP with the Lower Elwha Clinic, who will speak on the “Disease of Addiction”; Reflections Counseling Services’ Gayle McCormick, M.Ed., CDP; Dr. Allen Lapin, MD; Dr. Ron Bergman, MD; and Susan Hillgren, CDP, who will be leading a Q&A session regarding “Substance Abuse Prevention and Intervention”; and Jill Rodhe, MSW, LAC with Dove House Advocacy Services from Port Townsend, who will be speaking on “Addiction and Domestic Violence.”

 

The conference is sponsored by the Peninsula College Foundation and the college’s Allied Health Club.

Registration for the all-day conference is $99 for nonstudents and $50 for students. The fee includes both a continental breakfast and lunch. The Skills Center is at 905 W. Ninth St., Port Angeles.
