Volleyball camp on tap, angelers meeting set, BMX mini-camp coming soon

Volleyball camp on tap

Sequim High School is hosting a volleyball camp for middle school and high school girls on June 20-23.

The middle school camp is from 9 a.m.-noon and is open to girls entering grades 6-8 this fall. The high school camp is 12:30-4 p.m. and is open to girls entering grades 9-12 this fall. Cost is $75 per player. Former Sequim High standout players Taylor Balkan (playing at Valley City State University, North Dakota) and Haleigh Harrison (Western Washington University in Bellingham) are the featured coaches.

Anglers set meeting

The Puget Sound Anglers-North Olympic Peninsula Chapter meet next at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 16, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave., Sequim.

The speaker is chapter member Walt Blenderman, who will focus his presentation on techniques for catching chinook in Areas 5 and 6 in the area’s shortened salmon season.

The evening begins with viewing of raffle prizes and talking fish stories. A short club business meeting begins at 7 p.m. and the speaker follows. The meeting includes a $50 membership drawing (must be present to win).

BMX mini-camp and Olympic Day coming

Port Angeles hosts its cost-free Olympic Day, on Wednesday, June 22, with sign-ups set for 5:30-6:30 p.m. One-day free memberships are available and seven-day memberships are available through at USABMX.com.

The Port Angeles BMX track also hosts a mini-BMX camp from noon-3 p.m. June 21-22. Cost is $100 for both days (or get one-day $50 passes); discounts for multi-family participation are available. Registration is 11:30 a.m.-noon.

Local BMX racing sees seven more qualifiers in the season, with Port Angeles’ set for July 10. Qualifying racers compete at the state event on Aug. 28.

A fifth ace for Hume

Sequim’s David Hume sank his fifth hole-in-one last week at The Cedars at Dungeness.

Hume used a 6-iron to drive the 145-yard hole No. 8 on June 10.

Ron Fye and Steve Lewis of Sequim and Pat Covey of Port Angeles witnessed the feat.

Sequim Junior Soccer will be partnering with UK Elite Soccer in offering players summer soccer camp opportunities. UK Elite Soccer provide summer soccer camps to challenge and motivate young players using Global Soccer Curriculum designed to improve each individual player.
