The Seattle Seahawks are at the halfway point for them and have this coming week off to try to get healthier for what promises to be a very interesting November and December.

The Seahawks are coming off two home games, a 41-0 laugher against Jacksonville two Sundays ago and a conference battle with Arizona last Sunday.

The Arizona game was

ugly. The Cards drove the length of the field against a seemingly inept Seattle defense, then kicked off and recovered the kick inside the Seahawk 20 when Seattle didn’t bother to cover the kick.

Zap, it was 14-0 and the Cardinals turned loose their defense on Matt Hasselbeck. The poor guy had no chance to throw or run as he was busy eluding the onrushing Arizona linemen who ate up the Seahawk offensive front.

It was an ugly loss. One wonders what is ahead? The Seattle team we saw Sunday couldn’t beat BYE and that’s who they face this week.

What does the rest of the season look like?

A trip to Dallas on Nov. 1. Last year was a 34-9 loss at Dallas. Before that a 51-0 loss in 1980, a 27-0 loss in 1992, a 30-22 loss in 1998. The Hawks have just one win at Big D, a 31-14 victory in 1986. Don’t see much of a chance there.

Detroit comes to Seattle Nov. 8. Seattle is 8-4 against the Lions, with a 9-6 win in Detroit in 2006. Mark a win here.

Then it’s at Arizona next and Seattle has lost three straight in the land of the sun, including 34-21 last year. Based on what we saw last Sunday, Cards in a romp.

Then at Minnesota and Bret Farve. I like the Vikings in this one.

Then at St. Louis and the Rams are in a shambles. Chalk up a victory to wind up November.

Then it’s the 49ers at home Dec. 6. The Niners spanked the Hawks 23-10. Seattle will have to be at its best. A trip to Texas to play Houston on Dec. 13. The teams only have played once, a Hawks win in 2005 in Seattle. Still, it’s another road game and Seattle hasn’t fared well away from home.

Tampa Bay visits on Dec. 20 and Seattle is 7-2 against this team, but they suffered a loss in Florida last year, 20-10. This time Tampa has to travel and Seattle gets an early Christmas present.

Then a trip to Green Bay and Seattle has one win in eight tries on the road. Could be snow, ice, freezing temperatures, but it won’t matter as the Seahawks will be out of any playoff picture.

The last game is Tennessee at home Jan. 3. Seattle is 9-4 against the Titans and has won five straight. Make it six straight.

Teel time

Seattle is grooming a rookie to take the quarterback job and the rookie from Rutgers is watching, learning, taking in everything Hasselbeck does, because he’s almost a clone.

Hasselbeck is 6-4, 225. Mike Teel is 6-3, 225. Teel was drafted fifth in the sixth round of the 2009 draft and was a durable three-year-plus starter at Rutgers and started to turn heads during the team’s seven-win run at the end of the 2008 season.

He started 13 games as a senior, had 3,418 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, threw more than 300 yards four times and had one game where he completed 14 of 21 passes for 361 yards and six touchdowns.

He started getting NFL looks last year because his receivers finally started catching the ball. He’s got the size and the arm. Hasselbeck may be in his last year, what with his many injuries in the past two seasons, so keep Teel’s name handy. He’s the QB in the Seahawks’ future.

Tidbit file

Tough loss for the Washington Huskies in Arizona last Saturday. What happened to the Husky defense in the last five seconds of the game? Who screwed up the coverage? Was it the coaching staff? Did the young players panic?

We might never know answers to those questions. The Ducks fly in this Saturday and Oregon is much tougher than the Sun Devils. Ouch!

Great win for the Sequim Wolves against North Mason on an awful night in Belfair. The field was muddy, the rain poured down, but the Wolves showed just how tough they are by winning in the last period.

Welcome them home Friday night against Eatonville, but don’t take the Cruisers for granted, Sequim.

One of the premier events of the season takes place Thursday on the links at The Cedars at Dungeness golf course when all Olympic League schools converge for the cross country championship race. It will be a big girls and boys JV field at 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., then the varsity girls and boys go at 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Plenty of great viewing places along the run and the finish should be wild and woolly.

Coaches Dwayne Johnson and Pat Durr of Port Angeles do a great job of running meets of this size, so see you all on the course Thursday afternoon.

On the baseball front, the New York Yankees have a big edge on the Los Angeles Angels (as of Monday morning) and the California team had to win Monday to have a chance.

Meanwhile, the other L.A. team trailed the Phillies 2-1 after Sunday’s big win for the defending World Series champs, so it looks like a cold, cold World Series on the East Coast.
