One of the most important lessons we as parents can teach young people, including our kids and grandkids, is the civic responsibility to register and vote during elections. For those of us within the Sequim School District, the opportunity to demonstrate our civic responsibility is now with the upcoming elections involving the bond referendum for our community’s schools.

Please be sure to register if you haven’t already (it takes less than five minutes), and vote during the upcoming bond referendum on April 22 projects within the district.

A majority of Sequim’s school buildings are unsafe, energy inefficient, well beyond their useful lifespan, and are not keeping up with changing technological and trade-related educational demands. New construction and renovation will enhance the learning environment, improve the safety and security of our schools, and benefit students of all ages for years to come.

Financing all of the construction needs in one bond is a proactive approach that takes advantage of the historically low interest rates and will save the community and taxpayers a significant amount of money over the longer term. If the bond is approved, the Sequim School District tax rate will be lower than the state average and other similar-sized districts.

Our kids, grandkids, and community deserve to see this opportunity become a reality; Exercise your civic responsibility and vote on April 22.
