They may be young, the but the Wolves are learning how to make a splash.

Sequim’s girls swimming and diving squad earned their second victory of the season, swamping Klahowya 101-78 on Oct. 18.

The teams split the 12 events evenly, but Sequim’s deep roster (28 athletes) helped the Wolves knock off their Olympic League foes from Silverdale.

Dani Barrow (100 fly), Cassandra Calderon (200 individual medley), Julie Miller (100 breast) and Emily Van Dyken (diving) each earned individual wins while Sequim’s top relay squad (Barrow, Calderon, Miller and Jessica Craig) picked up wins in the 200 medley and 200 free relay swims.

Barrow (200 IM) and Miller (breaststroke) have qualified for the district meet, as has Sequim’s 200 free relay team.

The Wolves were looking to pick up a few more district-meet-qualifying swims at the Olympic League meet on Oct. 23 in Port Angeles — results were not available at press time.

Sequim coach Anita Benitez said she’ll be wildcarding other athletes for possible berths into districts as well. 

(Wildcards are given to swimmers and divers who have marks close to qualifying marks, helping fill out the district meet races.)

Qualifying swimmers compete at the West Central District 2A meet at Hazen High School in Renton on Nov. 2-3.
