Call it a bit of payback.
Sequim’s offense shot just 40 percent from the floor, but its defense more than made up for it in a 49-37 home win against Kingston on Jan. 24.
Erik Christensen and Anthony Pinza had 14 points each and Alex Barry added 13 as Sequim avenged a Dec. 16 loss to the Buccaneers on the road.
The Wolves (9-2 in league play, 11-4 overall) held a 7-6 lead after one quarter but fell behind by three (22-19) by halftime.
Pinza and Barry led a strong third quarter surge that saw the Wolves outscore the Bucs 16-8, and Sequim followed it up with a 14-7 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Barry led the team with 12 rebounds, Pinza had seven assists and backup post Josh McConaughey had two blocks.
Sequim played without senior forward Rory Kallappa.
Colin Veilleux led Kingston with 10 points.
Sequim trails Bremerton in the league standings. The Knights (12-0, 14-2) held off an upset bid by North Kitsap Friday, 62-61, to stay perfect in league play.
The Wolves were slated to play at North Mason on Jan. 28. Sequim hosts Klahowya on Jan. 31 and is at North Kitsap on Feb. 4.
Sequim closes the regular season with home dates against Port Angeles on Feb. 7 and Bremerton on Feb. 11.
Tuesday’s game
Sequim got off to a slow start, but Alex Barry and the Wolves had the final answers in a 49-43 win at North Mason on Jan. 28.
Barry hit for 20 points, including a pair of corner 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, as Sequim overcame an upset-minded Bulldog squad.
North Mason held a 12-6 lead after one quarter and 21-17 by halftime until Sequim finally caught up in the third quarter. The teams spent much of the final frame battling back and forth until Barry’s triples pushed Sequim ahead. Vance Willis, who was 4-of-5 from the field, hit a 3-pointer with less than two minutes left that gave the Wolves a 45-41 advantage.
Sequim post Erik Christensen finished with 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds and three blocks. Anthony Pinza added six assists.
