Three Sequim artists have been given the privilege of having their work displayed alongside artists from around Washington in the Collective Visions Gallery’s annual art show in Bremerton.
Photographers Pam Walker and Damon Edwards, along with graphic artist Pamela Dick, have been selected to show their work alongside more than 100 artists from areas like Bremerton, Seattle, Vancouver and Ellensburg.
The three artists and their works were chosen from almost 900 submissions across the state to be a part of the gallery, which was jurored by world-renowned painter Alfredo Arreguin of Seattle.
“I’m a little overwhelmed to even be chosen to be there, so I’m really excited,” said Walker, who submitted a photo transfer onto acrylic and silverleaf paint, which she says was an experiment that simply turned out well. Her photo received an honorable mention.
Damon Edwards was equally pleased to be invited to the gallery and submitted a photo he shot on the Oregon coast near Florence.
“The thing that fascinated me so much about the shot is that everything is like a vacuum pulling you down into the tunnel.” Edwards noted that only a handful of photographers were chosen out of 40 submitted works. “I’m pretty excited about it,” he said, “especially for photography because it’s a pretty hard medium to be looked at as art.”
Graphic artist Pamela Dick submitted a print of digital fractal-based artwork, which she has been doing for eight years.
“It was a fabulous show,” she said, “and to be included in it for me was just jaw-dropping.” Her submission “Theater Drapes” originally was the corner of a larger image which she enlarged to experiment with more.
“You change the math and move the triangles ’til you get something that makes you go wow,” she says, “and for me ‘Theater Drapes’ was a jump up and down moment.”
The gallery opened at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, followed by an evening reception and awards ceremony for the artists. The show remains open for a month while the gallery hosts related events, including artist panels, lectures and a jazz concert.
While judges distributed awards at the Saturday evening ceremony, a People’s Choice award will remain open until the third weekend in February. The exhibit closes Feb. 23.
