Popular teen fiddler Kate Powers returns to play Music Live with Lunch at noon Tuesday, April 19, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
She’s accompanied by guitarist David Rivers for a 30-minute set that includes multiple original songs by Powers including “61 Minute Hour,” “Cashmere” and “Storyline” (a suite of five tunes).
She came to violin through a scholarship from the Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association in 2010 and six years later continues to pursue a variety of genres such as Old-Time, Irish, Celtic, Romanian, and most recently jazz and swing.
Powers has played a wide range of venues and events with her most recent endeavors including playing with the PC College Jazz Ensemble and working on her debut solo album with guitarist Rivers which will be released soon.
Powers mostly plays music she composes and continues to teach herself fiddle while taking classical lessons in Seattle. After high school, Powers has her sights set on Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass.
Rivers was a founding member of Abby Mae and the Homeschool Boys in 2009 and played regularly with Irish fiddler Erin Hennessey and currently leads Folk-Worship-Hymns at Calvary Chapel in Sequim.
