Air Affaire volunteers needed

Organizers of the Olympic Peninsula Air Affaire are seeking volunteers for the event, set for Aug. 30-31 at Sequim Valley Airport. Volunteers are needed to help with parking and information booths.

Buy Clallam County Fair reserved parking passes

Reserved parking passes for the 2014 Clallam County Fair are available now. The cost is $20 for the entire four days (applicable taxes are included). Reserved parking is off 16th Street at the Blue, Red and Green Gate entrances. Call 417-2551 or stop by the Fair Office at 1608 W. 16th St., Port Angeles.

Saturday thrift shop opening

The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guilds Thrift Shop, 204 W. Bell St. in Sequim, will be open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16. All white-tagged items will be marked half-price during this sale. The shop is filled with summer and early fall fashions for everyone, household items, jewelry and glassware and linens. Consignors and volunteers always are needed. Call 683-7044.

Alzheimer’s meeting on tap

The Alzheimer’s Association, Western & Central Washington State Chapter, will have a town hall meeting from 1:30-3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., Sequim. The public is invited to attend.

Medium sessions offered

Azella, self-identified as “The Barefoot Prophet,” will hold medium sessions to contact deceased friends or relatives from 2-5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at the Sequim Library meeting room, 630 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim.

The fee is $15 per person payable at the session. For questions, call Azella at 681-3191.

Caregivers class offered

“Powerful Tools for Caregivers,” a class that helps those who care for loved ones also take care of themselves, will start Aug. 26 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave. The class will meet from 9-11:30 a.m. on six Tuesdays, ending Sept. 30. The cost is $25 for the textbook.

Topics include how the caregiver can reduce personal stress, solve problems, communicate effectively with other family members and make tough decisions. The class does not focus on hands-on care for the care receiver.

Fundamentals of Buddhism

Joanne Kumekawa (Padma Yong Chedtso) comes back to Sequim to teach a four-day course on the Fundamentals of Buddhism from 10 a.m.-noon on Aug. 19, 21, 26 and 28 at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

She also will introduce a short meditation practice to students. Classes include the life of Buddha Shakyamuni, present moment thinking, Time, Karma and other basic Buddhist views. A suggested donation of $60 is requested to cover expenses. No one is turned away for financial reasons.

Senior Nutrition menu set

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at Suncrest Village Retirement Apartments, 251 S. Fifth Ave.

Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest, and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed.
