Clallam County Fire District 3 saw three firefighters — Anaka Hughes, Erik Payne and Christian Whitaker — among the newest class of 26 graduate from the Washington State Patrol Fire Training Academy in North Bend on Oct. 28.

On Aug. 4, firefighter recruits from communities such as Everett, Snohomish and Richland began a 12-weekend Recruit Academy that meets National Fire Protection Association 1001 for Firefighter Professional Qualifications at the Firefighter I, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations Levels.

Graduating firefighters have learned basic fire service principles through classroom instruction and rigorous hands-on live fire training.
