On Oct. 28, Writers on the Spit will host the Fourth Friday Readings at The Lodge, 660 Evergreen Farm Way in Sequim.

Two acclaimed area authors will appear as the evening’s featured writers.

Sequim resident Dianne Knox embraces many interests including hiking, Tai Chi, yoga, the Seahawks and artwork.

But it is about writing that Knox says, “It’s the greatest freedom to be yourself and put a voice to life’s possibilities and challenges. As a writer, you aren’t living just one life, but as many as you have time to put down on paper.”

A graduate of the University of Iowa, Knox has traveled the world, including living a stint in Singapore. She has published in Tidepools and will present an interactive poem at Fourth Friday.

Jane Evans got off to a rocky start in life when the baby girl was named Daisy Mae. Clearer heads soon changed that dubious choice to Bonnie Jane, for which Evans is eternally grateful.

Evans, a graduate of Penn State and the University of Pittsburg, has taught English, worked as a college librarian and edited research papers.

She enjoyed reading to her two sons (born 13 years apart) but she says, “The most fun I have had with writing is in composing poetry.” Evans lives in Port Townsend.

The readings begin at 6:30 p.m. but arrive by 6 p.m. to purchase something at the Espresso Bistro when you enter the Lodge. There is elevator access to the second floor media room.

The event itself is free.

An hour of 5-minute open mic readings will follow the two speakers. Interested writers should come early to submit their names. For guidelines, contact lindabmyers@yahoo.com.
