OTA hosts ‘Phantom Frolics’
Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim, hosts a Haunted Theatre attraction open to the public from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the OTA Center. Presented by the OTA Children’s Theatre Troupe, teams of little “ghost hosts” will be conducting guided tours of the “haunted” theater building, followed by trick-or-treating, games and ghoulish concessions. Admission is $5 at the door; proceeds benefit the OTA Children’s Theatre program offering classes and workshops throughout the year. See olympictheatrearts.org.
Brown shares ‘Boys’ story
Bestselling author Daniel James Brown will visit the Port Angeles High School auditorium at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, to share the story behind his book, “The Boys in the Boat.” Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for this wide-ranging discussion about the writing life. Also joining the discussion will be Judy Rantz Willman, whose father Joe Rantz figures prominently in “The Boys in the Boat” and who was once a resident of Sequim. After the discussion, Brown will take questions from the audience and sign copies of his books. Copies also will be available for purchase on-site.
Sequim Accordion Social planned for Nov. 13
Join fellow accordion players, enthusiast and dancers for an afternoon of music and fun grin 1-4 p.m. Sunday Nov. 13, at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St. Sequim. Players of all levels are encouraged to bring their accordion and play 1-3 pieces. The featured player will be Richard Myking from Parkland. A donation of $2-$3 is suggested.
City of Sequim seeking proposals for public art
The Sequim City Arts Advisory Commission is seeking proposals for a public art installation in the city council chambers at the Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St. The opportunity is open to established professional artists living in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and California. Artists cannot be a member or an immediate family member of the Sequim City Council, City Arts Advisory Commission or an employee of the City of Sequim. The application deadline is 4:30 p.m. Nov. 1. Dungeness Bonsai Society features expert at meeting
The Dungeness Bonsai Society will hold its usual monthly meeting from 10 a.m.-noon, Nov. 1, at the Pioneer Memorial Park Clubhouse, 387 E. Washington St., Sequim. John Muth of Bonsai Northwest will be the featured speaker. Muth is a nationally recognized bonsai artist and has been involved in teaching bonsai design and care for over 30 years. He will bring materials to demonstrate how a bonsai is created and how seasonal care is done. The meeting is free and open to the public.
Musicians host joint concert in PA
In a joint concert celebrating their summer 2016 CD Releases, Marlene Moore and Hillary Nordwell share the spotlight at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, a the Port Angeles Seventh Day Adventist Church, 120 W. Eighth St. The performers share selected works from their respective albums and join forces for a few surprise pieces. Moore’s new album, “At Heaven’s Doorstep,” features the cellist’s works chosen to calm the mind and soothe the soul. Nordwell, who returns to Port Angeles from her home near San Francisco, plays “Opus 6” which combines large-scale piano works of Clara Wieck and Robert Schumann.

Peninsula College play set
Tickets are now on sale for “The Sea is a Restless Whore,” Peninsula College’s fall drama production, slated for performances at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, Nov. 9, 10, 16 and 17, at the Metta Room, 132 E. Front St., in Port Angeles. The play, written by Brian Boone and directed by Dr. Lara Starcevich, is about five pirates aboard a ship, each harboring a dirty little secret.

The Port Angeles Symphony is accepting applications for its 2017 Young Artist Competition and Junior Young Artist Competition. ‘Indigenous’ art on display at PC gallery
Linely Logan, a multidisciplinary artist, designer and cultural consultant of the Onondowaga/Seneca tribe, shares his artwork entitled “Indigenous Intrinsic Manifestations” with Peninsula College and the public through both words and works this fall. Sponsored by the Peninsula College House of Learning, Longhouse, Logan is the featured artist in the PUB Gallery of Art through Dec. 1, and a speaker at the Dec. 1 Studium Generale program. An artist’s reception will be held immediately following his Studium presentation in the PUB Gallery of Art.
Both the gallery exhibition and Studium Generale presentation are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Pirate Union Building at Peninsula College (1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles), and Studium, from 12:35 pm-1:25 p.m. in PC’s Little Theater.
Concert set at church
First Baptist Church, 1323 Sequim-Dungeness Way in Sequim, is hosting a free concert with the Burchfield Brothers from Nashville, Tenn., at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27. They will be featuring many styles of music on classical guitar, midi-marimba, Irish whistles and recorders.
