Anglers to talk Dungeness Chinook
The Puget Sound Anglers host Scott Chitwood, Fisheries Manager for the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, at their Oct. 16 gathering.
The meeting is at 6:45 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave., Sequim.
Chitwood will talk about “Dungeness Chinook, What Do We Know?” focusing on the freshwater productivity of Dungeness Chinook. The discussion includes information about factors limiting a successful recovery of the Dungeness run.

Port Angeles men’s hoops league to start
The Port Angeles Parks & Recreation’s men’s basketball league begins Nov. 3.
The league is open to men ages 18 and older. Games are played at Roosevelt Elementary School in Port Angeles.
Cost is $425 per team plus individual player fee.
Team packets are available at the parks and recreation office, 308 E. Fourth St. Deadline for team registration is Oct. 24.

Pirate hoops kicks off Oct. 24
The community is invited to celebrate the opening of Peninsula College’s men’s and women’s basketball seasons at a special preseason celebration at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, in the college gymnasium, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.
The celebration opens with a salute and thank you to Pirate Athletic Association members and supporters.
Community members will then have an opportunity to meet the 2014-15 basketball coaches and players and watch them in action in the Annual Pirate Tip Off and a Slam Dunk Contest, three-point shootout and scrimmage.

SkyRidge scamble on tap
SkyRidge Golf Course host a 2014 Fall Scramble tournament on Saturday, Oct. 18.
The event has a 10 a.m. shotgun start. Format is 18-hole medal play.
Cost is $50 per two-person team. Fee includes green fees, range balls, KPs, chili/corn bread lunch and more.

Volleyball league taking registrations
Registration is now open for the 2014-15 Peninsula Volleyball League.
The six-person coed league, held on Thursday evenings at Peninsula College, is for intermediate to advanced adult volleyball players. Entry fee is $250 per team and is due on Nov. 6. Teams paying their fee past that date will pay $300. There is no individual player fee.
Proceeds of the league support athletic scholarships at the college.
To register your team, contact Peninsula College Athletic Director Rick Ross at rross@pencol.edu, or 360-417-6533. The league is limited to the first eight teams that register.
Individuals wishing to play in the league may also contact the college and every effort will be made to place them on teams.
There will be an open gym at 6:30 on Oct. 30 and league play begins on Nov. 6.
Lightning suffers first loss
The Storm King Lightning Boys U-11 soccer team suffered their first blemish of the season after tying Seattle United West 3-3 on in Sequim on Oct. 11.
The Lightning took the early lead and controlled the first half as Ethan Knight scored off of a pass from Cristian Gonzalez. The Lightning then fell behind twice in the second half. Storm King’s Brandon Wagner had the first answer with a blast off of a free kick and Kristian Mingoy also tied it up with five minutes left off of a feed from Israel Gonzalez.
The Lightning, who remain atop the North Puget Sound League standings, play again at home on Oct. 18.
Rain doesn’t dampen run
Despite some of the wettest conditions race organizers have had in recent years, the Peninsula College women’s basketball team’s annual Crabfest 5k drew about 75 runners and walkers on Oct. 11.
The first male finisher was Dan Fish, clocking in at 18:29. The first female was Rebecca Gooding, who finished in 22:09.
Family run set
Healthy Families 2nd annual “Run for Safe Families” 5-10k is happening at the Port Angeles City Pier this Saturday, Oct. 18. Register at the event beginning at 9 a.m. (run/walk begins at 10 a.m.), or go to its Facebook page and register.
At 11 a.m. there will be a children’s puppet show focusing on making good choices and healthy relationships.
