Investing in Sequim’s future

What do you think is the best type of investing? Stocks, bonds, mutual funds, real estate? WRONG. The best investment we can make is in our community and particularly our schools. Next month voters in the Sequim School District will be asked to vote for a school bond to fund multiple school construction projects.

Sequim schools seriously need upgrading their safety system. Sequim High School and Helen Haller Elementary are open concept schools which makes it impossible to keep track of students. New construction would secure those schools.

The football, soccer, locker rooms and track areas are so out of compliance that Sequim cannot host playoff games.

Public schools are the backbone of a community. What is one of the first things families look for when considering moving to Sequim? It is the school system and the quality of education. As we already have excellent teachers, new facilities will help make their decision to move here easier.

As a pickleball player, I appreciate the school district allowing us to use their courts. The same can be said for tennis players and all those who use the fields and gyms for public play.

Someone invested in us so that we could go to good schools, so now it’s our turn. That is why as a retired senior, I am urging you to vote YES on the Sequim School district levy.

Property owners, sure it’s going to cost us more, but isn’t our community worth it? Aren’t the kids worth it?
