At Greywolf Elementary, student performance just keeps getting better and better.
It’s not going unnoticed.
For the third consecutive school year, Greywolf Elementary School in Carlsborg has earned a School of Distinction Award for being among Washington’s top improving schools.
The school showed sustained improvement over a five-year period in reading/English language arts and math, helping it become one of 51 elementary schools across Washington state to gain the distinction.
“At Greywolf we have developed systems that enhance our staff’s ability to meet our students’ at their individual learning levels,” Greywolf principal Donna Hudson said. “We also have received support from our district in the form of highly aligned curricula. Perhaps most importantly, students at Greywolf understand that their perseverance and hard work lead to their academic improvement.”
Since the School of Distinction awards were first presented in 2007, just 22 schools across Washington have received the award at least three times. Greywolf joins that list in 2015.
The Center for Educational Effectiveness, in partnership with a number of education groups — the Association of Educational Service Districts, the Association of Washington School Principals, Washington Association of School Administrators and the Washington Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, have recognized schools in the top 5 percent of improvement for their levels.
These schools span all regions of the state, from large urban to small rural communities.
“Hearty congratulations to Greywolf are in order for receiving their third consecutive School of Distinction award,” assistant superintendent Ann Renker said. “Donna and her staff work as a team to help all children succeed. The School of Distinction Award is evidence that teamwork, dedication and devotion to positive student outcomes is the foundation of Greywolf Elementary work.”
