An internship for a Sequim High grad, a first for the sheriff’s office.

Last week, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office welcomed Sequim High graduate Caitlin Stofferahn as its first intern.

Stofferahn graduated from Sequim High School and received an Associates of Arts degree from Peninsula College in 2015 as a Running Start student. She is in the baccalaureate program at Austin College majoring in sociology.

Stofferahn requested an internship with the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office as she is interested in pursuing a career in criminal justice. During her internship, she will participate in Firearms Simulator Training, ride along with patrol deputies, shadow corrections personnel to learn how a corrections facility operates, watch court proceedings and work alongside the Emergency Operations Center personnel during their Cascadia Rising Training Exercise.

In addition, she will have the opportunity to work with the prosecutor’s office, code enforcement officer Barb McFall and the probation office.

Her internship with the sheriff’s office will consist of 160 hours, with mentoring and supervision by administrative coordinator Lorraine Shore.

As a prerequisite for the internship, Stofferahn completed a background investigation, signed a confidentiality agreement and completed the Criminal Justice Information Services Security Awareness Training.

Stofferahn was granted the internship officially on May 24. She earns a course credit when the internship is completed.
