Richard Allen Lorentzen, 93, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, March 31.

Richard was born to the late Ernald and Beatrice Lorentzen on December 28, 1920 in Salina, Utah. His family moved to Shelley, Idaho during the Depression.

Following his graduation from Shelley High School in 1939, Richard moved to Seattle where he earned his journeyman’s license in plumbing. He then went to Kodiak, Alaska, where he worked on military construction projects.

When he returned to Seattle, he met the love of his life, Alice Gross. They were married on May 1, 1942. Richard and Alice celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary last May.

Richard served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, then returned to Seattle where he continued his career in plumbing.

Richard and Alice moved to Port Angeles in 1947 where he and his brother, Bryce, established Star Heating and Plumbing. After many years, the brothers sold the business and Richard went to work for Peninsula College as a maintenance supervisor. He remained in this position until his retirement in 1982.

During his retirement years, Richard enjoyed working in his garden, attending local musical and theatrical events, meeting with friends and neighbors, and entertaining his grandchildren.

He was immensely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and always found great joy in spending time with his wife and family.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Bryce Lorentzen; and his sister, Rhea Foster.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; and their three sons, Kurt (Patricia) Lorentzen, of Port Angeles, Doug (Elaine) Lorentzen, of Sequim, and John (Laura) Lorentzen, of Sequim. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his sister, Helen Hanson, of Idaho Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Stake Center at 591 Monroe Road in Port Angeles, Washington.
