Perry Richard “Dick” Cays passed away at the age of 88 on November 8, 2014, in Bothell, Washington, at
the home of his son.
Dick had a good, long life. He worked hard and lived life to the fullest.
His life centered around his family, friends and the University of Washington Huskies.
Dick was one of six children, born in Carlsborg, Washington on April 28, 1926 to Orrin and Ollie Cays.
??He graduated from Sequim High School and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
He married Jeanne Saum on December 17, 1948, in Sequim.
Dick and his family moved to Oak Harbor, Washington, in March of 1958.
He began working at NAS Whidbey as a fire fighter. He was also a volunteer firefighter for the Oak Harbor Fire Department.
For many years, he worked part time for Quinn Glass.
He retired early from NAS Whidbey to care for his wife.
He was an active life member of the Oak Harbor Elks Lodge #2362 and enjoyed serving in many different capacities.
He was also a life member of Henry Echternkamp VFW Post #4760 in Sequim.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne,in 1981; his son, Doug, in 2009; and his grandson, Michael, in 1962, parents Orrin and Ollie Cays, brother Glen Cays and sister Evelyn Woolett.
He is survived by his two children, Linda (Don) Iverson of Montesano, Washington, and Terry (Monica) Cays of Bothell; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; sisters Caroline Baumunk, Shirley Cameron, Beverly Hendrickson all of Sequim, and countless nieces, nephews, family and friends.
At Dick’s request, there will be no formal funeral or memorial, but he requested a Celebration of Life.
The Celebration of Life will be held 2:00-4:00 p.m. Saturday, December 6, at the Oak Harbor Elks Lodge, 155 NE Harvest St. “Dick Is Buying.”
