Jeanette McConnell

Jeanette McConnell

November 28, 1919 – August 8, 2015

Jeanette was born November 28, 1919 to Bert and Ella Lewis in Yakima, Washington.

She passed on August 8, 2015 in Clarkston, Washington at the age of 95 due to age-related complications. At her passing, she was surrounded by her 2 loving daughters, son-in-law (Mike Feil) and precious

caregivers from Riverview Residential Care.

After completing high school, Jeanette worked for

Reeds Millinery both in Yakima and later in California. In the spring of 1940 she met Carl McConnell who was a pitcher for the Yakima Pippins and a conductor on the Union Pacific Railroad in Pocatello, Idaho. It was

“love at first sight,” said Jeanette.

They married a year later and moved to Pocatello,

?where they raised their 2 daughters, Jacqueline Feil (Asotin, Washington) and Jeanie McConnell (Pullman, Washington).

Jackie blessed them with two wonderful grandchildren, Kelly Carlson-Reddig (Tom) of Charlotte, North Carolina and Gary Carlson, Jr (Cathy) of Honolulu. From that blessing, came another 4 great grandchildren: Nathan and Zoe Reddig and Kailey and Ethan Carlson.

Jeanette was active in the Methodist Church, Women’s Society of Christan Service, Protestant Women of Pocatello, Parent Teacher Association, Eastern Star and AXO (Alpha Chi Omega) Mothers’ Club.

She loved decorating and her home and holiday tables were always beautiful.

In her 50’s, she began oil painting and became quite accomplished. She also enjoyed golfing and never turned down a bridge game.

After 20 wonderful years of retirement in Sequim, Washington, Carl passed on in 2001 and Jeanette moved to Eastern Washington to be near her daughters.

After developing health problems, she moved into Riverview Residential Care, where for the past 8 years she has been a happy, well-loved resident.

Always a very fashion-conscious, beautiful dresser, she would delight everyone by adorning her comfy bathrobes with beautiful broaches and wearing matching earrings. A caregiver once said, “Jeanette is the only lady I’ve ever known that could make a robe look like an evening gown!”

She had a beautiful attitude toward life and shared love and wisdom with all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband & siblings.

A memorial service and luncheon was held August 17, 2015 at the Asotin Methodist Church (313 Second St, Asotin, WA). Pastor Beth Calkins officiated. Eulogies

were given by: daughter Jackie; grandchildren Kelly and Gary; and former Pastor Randy Cox.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Asotin United Methodist Church or the United Methodist Women, 313 2nd St, Asotin, WA.
